High school of the dead

Now I have watched a lot, and I mean A LOT, of anime but instead of writing reviews for all of the anime I have watched for now I am just going to start with the ones I recently finished. And right now that one is High School Of the Dead. Now I know this one is rather old but I finally managed to work up the nerve to watch it. So here we go. Diving into review mode in 3, 2, 1....

High school of the dead is a Action Horror anime filled with plenty of fanservice, ecchi, gore, and ZOMBIES. Yes the wonderful undead creature known as a zombie. This story centers around Takashi Komuro who is for the most part a normal high school boy. That is until an infection breaks out that turns people into zombie-like creatures. Along with his friends & the school nurse, they fight their way out and continue their journey to find out what exactly has happened to the world.

The character that annoyed me the most would have to be Saya Takagi. She was just a bit too stuck up, but thankfully in this anime the creatures tuned down her snobbishness and I was eventually able to accept her and her rich girl attitude. So props to the creature to making her an acceptable character.

Now other than her the other characters were quite well created. Their personalities suited their rolls perfectly. 

Animation wise. Well I thought it was great. The action scenes were AMAZING. Yes I had to caps that.

And about the sound track. I adored it. It had the perfect, "This anime is cool" music!

As for story. The story in general is what you would expect from anything in the zombie horror genre. Zombies take over the world, fight for survival, try to find a safe place, try to find your family and friends, pick up survivors, have a little romance cause the world is ending. You know the basics. 

The ending was basically a "They can continue the anime if the want to" sort of ending. Meaning they wrapped up the season for the most part, but left you with the small tinge of hope that there would be another one. As of yet though there has been no announcement of the release of the next season, meaning that if you want to know what happens after the anime you will need to pick up the manga.

I personally have nothing wrong with these type of endings. It's certianly better than the, "We flat out are canceling this show" endings like in Skip Beat and The Sacred Blacksmith. Those endings irritated the hell out of me, but that is for another blog.

So after calculating all of this and a night of lost sleep due to fear of being eaten alive by a rotting corpse, the rating I would give this anime out of a 1 to 10 scale I would give it a 8.5. 

The reason for this rating. Well the story line was something we have seen in a million zombie flicks so it wasn't bad but it wasn't exactly anything special. But to make that little boo boo better they threw in some hilarious scenes with doctor jugs and some romantic scenes with Rei. Also the covered the little boo boo in a band-aid of amazingly animated action sequences.
